Suit Up, Men!

Vintage is where it's at. More specifically, the top designers and popular street fashion are taking a cue from two of the most infamous decades for style: the 1960s and 1980s.

A 21st century twist on his unlikely combo is resulting in hybrid fashions for both women and men. Hate the strangling confines of a tight-collared shirt and tie? Want to spice up your denim routine? Well, you'll be relieved to hear the latest combo on the runways and streets of men's fashion. | | Try pairing up a classic suit jacket with a vintage T-shirt on your next soiree; this sexy, casually-styled look is gaining ground in metrosexual territory as a fresh revival of your quintessentially male staples. Slip into your most comfortable jeans, or cords and complete this split-personality style with your choice of footwear - even high-tops are making a come-back this season! Who ever thought you'd be able to pair gym gear with a suit jacket? Who knows how long it will last, so have fun! You can check out your favorite thrift shop for a witty, vintage tee, or save some time and spend a tad more gringo on a designer repro. Whatever the label, bold, bright colors with distinctive prints and logos are where it's at. As winter approaches, add texture (and warmth) to the look by pumping up the layer volume with a smart vest, a sporty track jacket or even a hooded sweatshirt. | | Old school also gets an 'A-plus' when it comes to footwear this season. |
| Remember, a suit is an investment, so too is a suit jacket. Although this season's casual look is gently touseled, we're not going for ratty: commit to a quality jacket, whether it's thrift-sourced, or a designer label. While the black cashmere and wool jacket never goes out of style, don't be afraid to express your personality and sense of adventure by strutting your stuff in blues, grays, classic pinstripes, camel or chocolate tones in corduroy, cotton, or even suede selections. Double-breasted, flipped collar, rolled sleeves... the possibilities are limited only by your personality and willingness to flaunt it. Also being paired with the suit jacket is the classic dress shirt (either pale solids or subtly striped) garlanded with boldly-colored striped ties, this time paying homage to memories of boarding school. You're all grown up now, so let it all hang loose. Shirts are being worn slightly disheveled in a pressed, but untucked style, and ties give you some breathing room by being worn with plenty of slack around the neck. Whether you opt for the tee or the shirt and tie, or a mélange of these classics, accessorize your collaged look from head to toe with a practical toque, boyish ball-cap, Brit-inspired driving caps, or even a simple bandana. If you prefer to let your locks breathe, make sure they're as carefully unkempt as the rest of you. Catch someone's eye with a chunky belt buckle, and stay warm for the look of it with a gentlemen's scarf. Old school also gets an 'A-plus' when it comes to footwear this season. Classic kicks including retro productions from Adidas, Asics, Avia, K-Swiss, Reebok, Puma, New Balance, Converse, and even Pro-Keds are pounding the pavement (on and off-court) in full force this season. For a more sophisticated or rock-inspired look, anything leather kicks butt. Gentlemen, you have options, so take advantage of the urban male's newly-developed plumage. Metrosexuals dress with confidence: It's not just what you wear, it's how you wear it that counts! |
