Face-Off: Eye Makeup Removers
Cleaning your eyes of a day's worth of makeup gunk will keep your lashes healthier and prevent products from creeping into your eyes over night.

A lady's bedtime routine can be a little weighty with all those cleansers, exfoliators, toners, moisturizers, accessory treatments and eye creams. And so we might get a little lazy and skip the scrub or the specialty products (tisk tisk).

But there's one step we can never forget: removing eye makeup.

Cleaning your eyes of a day's worth of makeup gunk will keep your lashes healthier and prevent products from creeping into your eyes over night.

Eye makeup removers come in various delivery systems, from creams to liquids to pads. We like liquids because they are the least messy and feel the most gentle on the delicate eye area.

Lancôme's Bi-Facil, L'Oréal's Refreshing Eye Makeup Remover and Clinique's Take the Day Off are put to the test in GKFA.com's Eye Makeup Remover Face-Off.

Lancôme's Bi-Facil

This double-action eye makeup remover is true to its claims, well, at least most of them. It quickly sweeps away stubborn mascara and leaves the skin around the eye feeling refreshed and cool.

Lancôme says Bi-Facil leaves behind no oily residue, but we have to disagree. There was a slight slippery film leftover, but we don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. It just means your makeup slides off easily without scratching the skin.

This product has been ophthalmologist-tested and conditions the skin as it removes makeup. Bi-Facil is perfect for sensitive skin types. The eye area experiences zero discomfort and is left smooth and soft.

Clinique's Take the Day Off

Part of the three-product Take the Day Off line, this liquid is quick and easy. It will remove even the toughest of makeup, including waterproof mascara. This ophthalmologist-tested product loosens the makeup's grip on your lashes and skin and gently whisks it away.

We chose Take the Day Off over Clinique's Rinse-Off Eye Makeup Solvent because they just don't compare. The rinse-off formula works for every-day makeup, but if you're wearing anything with oomph, then Day Off is the product for you.

Added bonus: Take the Day off is for lids, lashes and lips! That means those stubborn long-last lipsticks are gone with one wipe.

Our only gripe is the faint greasy film left behind typical of liquid eye makeup removers. Clinique recommends rinsing the eye area with cool water afterward.

L'Oréal Dermo-Expertise Refreshing Eye Makeup Remover, Oil-Free

When it comes to eye makeup removers, you get what you pay for. L'Oréal's Refreshing Eye makeup Remover does effectively take off stubborn mascara, liner and shadow, but not without a little help.

You'll have to rub the cotton swab a little on your eye to loosen up the makeup. This oil-free formula doesn't leave behind a greasy film. Instead, it does the opposite: it's a wee bit drying.

But when you factor in its cheap price, L'Oreal's Refreshing Eye Makeup Remover isn't all bad. It works, it's oil-free, it conditions the eye area, it's dermatologist-tested, and it's way under ten bucks.
